Nature Weaving Loom

At the start of each day, we engage in cognitive learning activities to acquire knowledge and skills. However, as the day comes to an end, it's important to shift our focus to the emotional and physical aspects of learning.

To connect with our personal identity, cultural heritage and our connection to the world, we engage in activities that involve both the heart and the hands. These activities allow us to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our place in the world. They also foster creativity, self-expression and a sense of community. Making a nature loom is a great way to achieve this connection.

Here’s how to make a nature loom as we did:

  1. Lay your sticks out in a square shape and glue each corner. Let dry. Tie the sticks together at each corner by wrapping the twine diagonally, one way and then the other. Secure by tying a knot in the back.

  2. At the bottom left corner, attach the twine with a knot. Begin wrapping the twine across the frame, going back and forth in a criss-cross pattern and looping around each side once during each pass until you get to the top of the right side. Tie a knot in the back to secure the twine and cut off the end of it.

  3. Take some time in nature to collect different things that work in a loom such as colorful leaves, twisty sticks, flat shells, flowers, etc.

  4. Weave them into your loom. Enjoy creating!
